UCLA Representative speaking to WCUSD students about college admissions
West Covina Unified hosted a free college fair

The West Covina Unified School District hosted its fourth annual college fair on Sept. 26 from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Edgewood Schools located at 1625 W. Durness St. in the city of West Covina.

Approximately 40 representatives from the most prestigious colleges were in attendance. Representatives were able to answer questions about programs, campus activities, housing, support services and admission requirements.

Personalized breakout sessions according to grade levels was also available for families. The district encouraged students of all grade levels to attend the fair and take advantage of the resources.

“It’s important for students in the earlier grade levels to be exposed to college before they transition to high school,” said Margaret Llamas, college and career coordinator. “We want to show them the endless amount of college and career paths available. For high school students, this event usually helps them kick-start their college research process.”

Food trucks were available for dinner starting at 5:00 p.m. The college fair officially opened at 6 p.m.

Elementary and middle school breakout sessions started at 5:30 p.m. in the cafeteria. These breakout sessions included strategies to prepare K-6 families for college readiness and success.
