About Us

Welcome to the 2018/19 Walnut Grove Intermediate School Website. We are so glad that you are visiting our site, and even more excited about the opportunities and offerings we have for your children. Walnut Grove is a 7th and 8th grade Intermediate School that has less than 450 students. We are proud to be a small school where every student is known and taken care of academically and socially. We have a fabulous staff of teachers and support personnel that take interest in each of your children's' academic progress and personal maturity. We look forward to supporting students to do more deep reading, writing and discussing as we prepare them for both college and career. Please explore our website and you will find a wealth of information from teacher's assignments to activity and sports schedules.  If you have any questions, concerns, or feedback for us please contact us through the website e-mail. Thank you, and enjoy the site.

Weekly Message

Good Afternoon Walnut Grove Families,

I would like to thank all of you for such a fantastic Back to School Night! It was well attended, and parents and families were able to learn a lot about their students' teachers and classes this year. We are excited for all learning your students will be engaged in. They will learn many academic concepts and standards, as well as learn how to become better thinkers, readers, writers and speakers, and most of all how to become successful adults. What a amazing task we have committed to joining with you in. It will be a great year!

We would like to invite all families to join PTSA. Students will be able to participate in our Welcome Back Dance this Friday, September 21 for free if they join, or they can pay for their admission.

Students and families are also encouraged to sign up for the Rotary 5K Run Saturday morning September, 22 at the West Covina Mall. Our school will pay the registration fee for the first 20 runners!

We will be having our first recognition assembly for students and families Friday September 28 in the morning. We will be sending out invitations next week for students for students who met our school’s goals on the CAASPP test. Our goals were that students increased by 50 points, went up a band, or stayed a 3 or 4. We will send out more information next week.

Thanks and have a great weekend!

Welcome to Walnut Grove!

UCLA Representative speaking to WCUSD students about college admissions
West Covina Unified hosts free college fair

The West Covina Unified School District is hosting its fourth annual college fair Sept. 26 from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Edgewood Schools located at 1625 W. Durness St. in the city of West Covina.

Approximately 40 representatives from the most prestigious colleges will be in attendance. Representatives will be able to answer questions about programs, campus activities, housing, support services and admission requirements.

Personalized breakout sessions according to grade levels will also be available for families. The district encourages students of all grade levels to attend the fair and take advantage of the resources.

“It’s important for students in the earlier grade levels to be exposed to college before they transition to high school,” said Margaret Llamas, college and career coordinator. “We want to show them the endless amount of college and career paths available. For high school students, this event usually helps them kick-start their college research process.”

Food trucks will be available for dinner starting at 5:00 p.m. The college fair officially opens at 6 p.m.

Elementary and middle school breakout sessions start at 5:30 p.m. in the cafeteria. These breakout sessions include strategies to prepare K-6 families for college readiness and success.

High school breakout sessions start at 5:30 p.m. and will include the following:

  • How to be College Ready and Afford It
    Location: Media Center
    • Session 1: 5:30 - 6:00 p.m.
    • Session 2: 6:30 - 7:00 p.m.
  • Financial Aid
    Location: Cafeteria
    • Session 1: 6:30 - 7:00 p.m.
